This article is a re-post, from September 2014, to honor those fallen in the tragedy of September 11, 2001.  This also is NOW a ‘taboo’ subject that will attract the attention of illegal surveillance, as many ‘key words’ are on the list garnering attention by the NSA, among other agencies.  As I’m re-posting this, I’ve drawn a great deal of attention in the small corner from which I’m working.  The individual pictured, has walked by me at least five times, over the course of 10-15 minutes.  He, among about six other individuals, have been mulling about 0401151704-00-1-StalkedAtDeVos, seemingly aimlessly, when there are plenty of other spaces in this (The DeVos Library of Grand Valley State University) large and quite luxurious ‘supposed’ sanctuary of learning.  After several minutes and several ‘pass-by’s,’ I began feeling those strange sensations (heart palpitations, labored breathing, anxiety, headache, the feeling of raised blood pressure, etc.), up to the time I got the attention of one of the Library staff members, of whom I’ve informed about a previous incident and of which I asked to observe the increased traffic around me, as I went on line to re-post this blog.  Fortunately, being cognizant of my surroundings and informing others of what is going on is one way of putting pressure on those conducting illegal, warrantless surveillance, putting them on notice that you are being WATCHED AS WELL!!!

September 12, 2014 by rustacus21 | Edit

Everyone in America remembers that fateful morning 13 years ago, if they were anywhere near a TV or radio.  It was one of those moments frozen in time that will never be forgotten in living memory, as well as being memorialized in the history of a nation for all time.

For some however, it has far more intense meanings.  For those American’s who were actually there, September 11th, 2001 is a constant and recurring recollection that somehow seems as if one tries hard enough, they can change the circumstances and outcomes, or maybe even the event altogether, so that the horror will have never occurred at all.  But then, upon coming back to reality, the realization that another year has passed and the emotion is no less sharp, the pain no less severe, the longing no less deep, for things to be back to the way they were on September 10, 2001…

For one such person, Richard Clarke, Counter Terrorism Chief through three administrations, this would be one day he would very much like to forget, more so than any other American.  As he was the highest official on duty that day, and while beginning like every other for the last several years, this one day would forever haunt him (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4568982/ns/us_news-security/t/government-failed-you-clarke-testifies/#.VBHjMUDgf4c).  Doing everything in his power to impress upon the new, incoming Bush administration that it needed to take far more seriously, the threats to the nation by al Qaida, he could get no one to listen – much less the desperately needed cooperation he continually asked for.  Not Condi Rice.  Not his direct superior and then-Vice President, Dick Chaney.  Not even the President himself, George W. Bush.  In spite of all that he knew and the seriousness of the knowledge he carried, no one seemed to take Richard Clarke seriously enough to try to improvise, coordinate with outside channels, even to the point of insubordination if necessary, to get someone to act somehow, in find out the information that would keep Americans safe from what Clarke knew was a terrifying prospect – if word on the wire was in fact true – that an attack on the American mainland was eminent and we being terribly – horribly – unprepared, would suffer enormously as a result!

While exasperated that he could not get the cooperation he had asked for and desperately needed, others in his department were frustrated beyond words – and then to actions deemed necessary, if nothing else, meet the challenge of the dangers presumed in the threat-rankings which seemed to increase as the summer went on.  One of those department personnel was John O’Neill – an agent of the FBI, until his abrupt departure from the agency after realizing that the incoming Bush administration was planning to do nothing about the assumed terrorist actions that by all intents and purposes, was looking more likely as the summer of 2001 was winding down.  His foresight was uncanny, but of not much good as he alone was helpless in not being able to adequately create the necessary contingencies that would have addressed and had the nation prepared for what was to come.

Increasingly agitated over what he saw as another case of Washington interference in the security affairs that were keeping the nation and its citizens safe, O’Neill would retire later that summer, out of sheer exasperation with the bureaucracy that always seemed to hamstring the efforts of his agency, more than give them their every need in combating phantom foes of which there seemed no adequate means to anticipate their actions.  Also, because he’d had more than his share of run-ins with  – and not the first dealing with an attack on the World Trade Center – it was in fact eight years earlier, he was also embroiled in disputes over the exact means by which the security agencies should review, in the aftermath of the February, 1993 bombing of the WTC and whether this was just some random action by lone wolf terrorists (as a goodly majority of agents and officials seemed to think), or the start of something of a trend that was only just beginning, with events and a chain of associations, reaching from the Middle East, to Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Philippines, with a common thread being the Mujihadeen.  The very same Mujihadeen which was aided by the Americans during the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan, during the 1980’s and early 1990’s.  With nowhere left to aim their anger and zealotry, the most likely place would be the American and European empires of whom they saw as still setting their imperial designs upon underdeveloped nations rich in natural resources, or were of great geographically strategic value.   But their view was focused on the perceived or actual nature of destructiveness to the poor of the world, most especially Muslims of the Middle East and Central and South Asia.

A hard-living womanizer, O’Neill certainly knew his job and was rarely off base, with the abundance of information and contacts he’d acquired over the years, as a long-time FBI agent.  He and Clarke would have a rough start at the outset, but would soon come to rely on each other, per their respective positions in the vast security networks, all of which began working overtime soon after the first WTC attack and the critical importance placed on the eyes and ears needed to keep track of the growing menace of fundamentalist groups that seemingly grew out of the disaffected regions of the Middle East, Central Asia (bordering Russia) and South Asia.  Beginning in 1995, their partnership would take them from the hunt for the 1993 WTC bombing mastermind, Ramzi Yousef, who had been seen in Pakistan and at that time.  As O’Neill’s expertise gave him the ideal vantage point from which to round up such characters and bring them back to the U.S. for trial, he did not disappoint.  On the chance that they had been identified and indicted and if out of reach of American authorities, O’Neill’s service showed why he was the consummate professional in this particular line of covert security, targeting and apprehensions. By assembling his own team of agents that he knew he could rely on, to get the work done that only he could, like very few others of his particular level of the security field, results were the best measurement of success.

This is why his seemingly forced departure was so perplexing to many in the agencies – aside from the increasingly erratic personal behavior – he was still able to get the job done.  The fact that five of the suspects in the 1998 Kenyan and Tanzanian bombings had been rounded up and eventually convicted, with the O’Neill-led investigation, eventually identifying bin Laden as the mastermind and placing him atop the most wanted international terrorist list.  What would occur over the next year could only be described as surreal, as a single security stop at the U.S. – Canadian Port Angeles, Washington border crossing and basically stumbled across the motherload of terror suspect breakthroughs!  Richard Clarke himself described this as the most comprehensive discovery of that period – if not ever in modern time, as the arrest of Algerian Ahmed Ressam, on December 14, 1999, not only thwarted the planned New Year’s bombing of Los Angeles International Airport, but also the planned bombing of the Ahman, Jordan Radisson Hotel, and after sifting through the web of contacts connected to Ressam, which would lead to the preliminary investigations leading directly to the eventual perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attacks! (See http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2002/01/14/the-counter-terrorist)

John O’Neill’s feelings of a lack of appreciation and cooperation – coupled with that of Richard Clarkes’ postulations that their work to uncover terrorists generally, but those who would eventually be involved in the 9/11 attacks specifically, leave a haunting legacy to the aftermath of that tragic day, permitting those of us who have at least broached the truth, to still have still more lingering questions than answers, and to continue wondering even now, how the diligence of just just these two men could change world history?

This day is all the more tragic, in as much as John O’Neill – seeing his duty as protecting the nation with his every last effort, being his very last job, as Head of Security at the World Trade Center, which would be his most challenging.  Never knowing just how close he’d come to being part of the team that took down members of a group committed to creating chaos and terror on American shores, how much greater success could he have achieved had he been blessed with just a hand full more of individuals with the same diligence as he?  And then, by paying the ultimate price, O’Neill would perish in the ruins of the South Tower, where former fellow FBI agent, Wesley Wong last saw him, heading toward, with the express intent to try and assist in the evacuation of potential survivors, prior to the towers collapse.

Being denied the opportunity to help prevent one of the most horrific tragedies in our nations history is especially painful, knowing the team assembled by the Clinton administration, had one of their own waiting in the wings, in the person of Vice President Al Gore.  And it was his department (as was the next Vice President, Dick Chaney) which oversaw and coordinated the Anti-Terrorism Unit, which would have still been intact, at the very moment his (Gore’s) administration had been declared the winner of the electoral dispute of the 2000 election.  That, being the first tragedy, of a plurality of Justices failing to, as former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day-O’Connor would later reflect (http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/29/oconnor-regrets-bush-v-gore/?_r=0), that like many other legal scholars and experts at the time agreed, should have simply said ‘… we’re not going to take it…‘ (in deciding on a yet-incomplete Florida recount process, rushed upwards to the Supreme Court prior to its conclusion) instead of being decided – not on precedence or prevailing law – but along strict party and ideological preferences of the five conservative Justices that made up the majority.

Looking even a step further, how might just 560 or so more voters have made a difference similarly, in Florida, had they cast their votes for someone else on the ballot the night of November 7, 2000?

Knowing what we do now, seeing far more clearly that the very politically conservative Supreme Court Majority decision on December 12, 2000, was wrong, if only for the fact that nearly 3,000 American lives were – at that precise moment – placed in the balance that very night, we will never know with any real certainty, that had Al Gore been allowed the whole of the estimated 180,000 – plus votes that were in dispute and therefore disallowed, would they have made a difference enough to avert the tragedy of September 11, 2001?

For we the living, this is all we have to hold on to, as the reverberations of that one day, shaking us to the core each year still, reminds us of what was, what could have been and what is, yet still today.  But today is a day of remembrances, tears and reflection, so let us engage there once more and reflect…

We have much still to be thankful for, as we’re still working to create a safer world, garnering allies to accompany us on our walk toward a world of peace and co-existence, with the hope that along the way, we’re able to avert future threats from those who misunderstand life to such a point that they would rather quickly end it due to frustration, instead of taking those few minutes necessary to think things through; pray; even talk to someone and come away with just  a small mustard seeds worth of hope, that tomorrow may just possibly be the day that brings the breakthrough they were waiting on – making the planned carnage and death unnecessary, meaningless and in the end, foolish.

This is the hope that is embodied in our Democracy and is the reason we have collectively, avoided great violence throughout our history.  Our unique brand of Democracy, when put to its greater efforts, aims our attention towards tomorrow, in the hope that with a unified, collective effort, we are that much better.  If only more Americans would see this day as the opportunity that it truly represents – in just this fashion… in spite of such sacrifices…

White American’s have to own up to what they’ve done to this nation – and the world – if we’re ever going to do anything to turn things around in this country. Case in point, while adding comments to an article posted on one of my favorite website, National Memo, the computer I was using at the Grand Valley State University computer lab was attacked, or should I say, hacked, as I was saying, or rather writing, and to paraphrase, … we as Democrats, as Liberal/Progressives, don’t need to think like conservatives and drive ‘wedges’ or anything anywhere! Our ideology is all about the citizenry, equality, truth and being maturity, in the process of responsibly owning and managing a Democracy. White voters not seeing it as such, have again fallen into the trap of racism laid by conservatives, painting (President) Obama as some ‘Black-male-terror-to-be-feared, when they (White voters) are just now realizing they’ve again, been made complete fools of.  Voting for conservatives in 2000, 2002, 2004, meant those votes were directly responsible for the destruction of the nation – like it or not.  Then, again in 2010 and 2014, voting against restoration, reconstruction and rebuilding of the nation their past votes represented, in the actual destruction of the nation originally, by again voting ‘AGAINST’ your best interests (i.e., President Obama/Liberal & Progressives/Democrats), in the two Mid-Term elections since, just because conservatives said he was ‘bad,’ and media money hypnotized you (White people) – in BOTH elections – to believe that ‘that Black guy in the White House’ was no good and not to be trusted – under ‘ANY’ circumstance!  It only came to pass because it was only money and corporate media played and replayed the same message, over and over, until it became so!

The article, by John Stoehr, titled Keystone, Patriotism And The White Working Class (see it at: http://www.nationalmemo.com/keystone-patriotism-white-working-class/ ), began as a call for all Americans to pay attention to the upcoming deadline for authorization of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which if it becomes a reality, will deliver the very worst and dirtiest petroleum imaginable (although we have yet to reach the absolute bottom of the petroleum reserves barrel yet, so the worst may still be yet to come, considering the chemical composition of Canadian tar sands petroleum that will course the length of the XL Pipeline). The processing itself will require more water and additional chemicals, in breaking down the tar sands petroleum, into eventually, a usable grade of fuel for the global consumer.

Mr. Stoehr then quickly shifted gears to the tragic plight of Democrats having lost precious support among so many White, middle and poor, working class voters during each Mid-Term election, since 2010. And it’s not even so much that they lost such traditionally steadfast demographics, but the issue is more how they lost that support! That White Americans in fact, were duped into this, as a long-term strategy, to not just turn on Democrats, but eventually, Obama himself, by the 2012 Presidential elections. But it goes far deeper…

Conspiracy To Treason And Vice Versa

Since the Civil (or more distinctly, Human) Rights era, White Americans certainly understood the plight of Black Americans and the inhuman reckoning faced daily in the Jim Crow h

American South and the complicit American North of the nation. It would take a joint, national and unified effort to undo centuries of oppression, but it was meaningless, once money stealthily moved into the picture and our politics slowly rightward.

Mr. Storhr told a tender story of a father – a long-haul steel driver and no doubt, Union member. While not mentioned directly and from the history of the period, his mother appears to have been a stay-at-home mom, as this being one of the more lucrative trades, afforded families to be able to rely on a single income of such magnitude.

This was around the 1980’s, as the narrative gives a glimpse of the times being categorically anti-government, as well as anti-military, which was the pervasive mood of the country during this period. As a consequence, we can see that the nation learned nothing in the interim, instead, shifting in an ever wrong direction, voting increasingly Republican with the psychic terror tactics again working against White American’s and inducing fears of some imaginary Black (drug-war spill-over into White suburbs) or Arab (terror attacks on servicepersons) menace – somewhere out there – ready to reach out and kill in the blink of an eye. What was not paid attention to was the fact that competent, coherent government was practiced the whole of the 1980’s by Democrats, as a check against the paranoia of the money and power elites of the nation, who feared the shifting demographic landscape would eventually look the way it would in the 1990’s. That with the obvious consequences of education being that it was indeed the great socio-economic equalizer – and then, in the 1990’s, it literally coming to pass. Middle Class and poor working class American’s of races, cultures, gender and age groups were perfectly fine with these developments and got along perfectly fine, during this period. The unease was reflected in the push-back against Clinton, making the opposition not about policy of economics or even ideology, but rather his personal morals and then, tying them to his associations with those people – people of color, we should make no mistake!

There was a desperation underneath all of this opposition, if reading Mr. Storhr essay carefully. We have the right-wing anti-government initiative, which was all about a pushback against giving stuff (or more precisely, rights, freedoms, liberties, equality and justice, to Americans as a birthright, but denied for centuries, even after the Emancipation of slaves and the Civil War) to those people. Reagan’s imagined welfare queen comes to mind. Along with that came attacks on labor unions, which became the perfect ally to non-White factory and then farm workers, during the 1950’s, into the 1960’s. Education – Public education, that is – became another object of derision, causing waves of violence from coast to coast, with the forced busing and property tax issues again dividing the nation, when it should have been coming together because the legislature, the Constitution and the courts, all working in unison, to make our nations laws uniform and equally applicable in every situation.

But this is where the shift occurred, where our thinking everything was ok, the slow shifting and redistribution of wealth during the 1980’s, would not actually manifest until 2000, when the Supreme Court aligned itself with elites and corporations, in the person and as supportive of George W. Bush. Over the years since the 1970’s, the donor class has exerted extreme muscle in wresting control of our government from us squabbling Middle Class and working class poor buffoons, not paying attention in the least, while the whole of us lost rights, liberties and eventually, control of our government.

I didn’t believe this myself, until I discovered something that came quite as a shock – a report that intricately details how the rich and corporate people (although we know there’s no such thing and if you don’t believe it, ask one (a corporate individual – NOT their paid representative, CEO, lawyer or PR person, but THE actual corporate PERSON!!!) have bribed control of our government from our legislature, judiciary and executive branches of government! Over the course of the same now, 34 years, the tax cuts to only the wealthy and corporations, have been paying, as the report is titled, Stacking the Deck, so that the power will eventually reside only in the hands of the one percent and corporations.

The data stunning in its unambiguous details of specifically how this effort is deliberatively racist, as the impacts are undeniably aimed to harm people of color. The report itself: Stacked Deck: How The Bias In Big Money Political System Undermines Racial Equality, (found at: http://www.demos.org/publication/stacked-deck-how-bias-our-big-money-political-system-undermines-racial-equity) could not be more accurate in analyzing the slow but poisonous trend of making irrelevant, the power of the nation’s broad, diverse and homogenous citizenry, becoming entangled in the same politics of capriciousness cultures, races, genders and age groups, against themselves, in the manner described in the article by John Stoehr.

The reversals, as detailed by the first half of the report, describing how racial equality and the legal remedies of government to correct this crisis, is then followed up by a second report with the same title, and subtitled, … How the Racial Bias in Our Bib Money Political System Undermines Our Democracy and Our Economy, has become therefore, the pivotal issue surrounding the amazing banality possessing the entirety of Americas voting age public. Not knowing what this all means nor how to correct it, what is so horrifying!

Using Mr. Stoehr story-line, of the impact that allowing the XL Pipeline project to move forward as plans, inevitably points our attention in the other direction of why the obsessive determination to continue using fossil fuels, when we have – tabled and shelved and unused – all sorts of Green, renewable energy options that, today, could make our dependency on fossil fuels obsolete with just a few years. Yet we can’t even come to a consensus on this issue, because we don’t have a clear enough understanding of exactly what Global Climate Change is – another issue where our understanding is tortuously dictated – again – by big money media propaganda. In essence now, this is not a problem for Democrats, but rather all live on the planet, if we fail to discontinue using fossil fuels immediately. Because what will our politics look like should we go even another 50 years, pursuing both courses that our energy and political policies are on a catastrophic course heading?

The Death Of Democracy – The Death Of Earth

While rank and file Democrats and sound-thinking, reasonable conservatives know what’s at stake in the climate debate, many are paralyzed by the bribery condoned, forbidding them to act – let alone speak. This is where the racial issues come into play, as White voters feel traitorous should they side with non-White voters on any issue even remotely reasonable, intelligent or racially relative. Education is currently under the same money influence, with Charter Schools robbing Public Schools nation-wide of gravely deprived funding, at a time when all of our children need the very best education they can get, so that should we fail, they will at least have a fighting chance to coordinate solutions among the whole of their numbers, to apply the knowledge gained through a full and comprehensive education. This is not a matter, as the article pointed out, of how Democrats will reach White voters, but whether or not they will use simple common sense in realizing they and their progeny likewise, are doomed to a slow and miserable demise, should they not make the choices NOW to correct their OWN voting errors and reengage the political system as instructed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

First, a quick look at the terrain is essential in order to even think about moving forward. Because if historical memory serves correctly, the Human Rights initiatives, linked together with the anti-war movement, the ecological movement and the much ignored, but no less crucial anti-imperialist movement – which was also an outgrowth of our own American Human Rights initiative, all were derailed by the Vietnam War. Where we are mere inches from the point we were EXACTLY 50 years ago! How can we NOT even see the parallels? Just when major decisions are demanded of our legislature, executive and judiciaries, they’ve all failed, because we have not yet realized our citizen-control and power has been short-circuited.

What Mr. Stoehr forgot to mention was how convoluted our political system has become as a result of big money initiatives to dilute and obstruct voting in poor and non-White communities nation-wide. Because of income, wealth and racial inequality, the whole of the bottom 89% of the nation’s ENTIRE CITIZENRY is under distinct duress. Then, there is the militarization of our police and their violently repressive tactics, purely intended to intimidate, harass and brutalize the public – especially non-Whites, non-conservatives, outspoken dissidents (such as myself, being just tonight, in the process of commenting on Mr. Stoehr’s own article, was my on-line access halted by the illegal and immoral surveillance I’m continually under specifically because of essays such as THIS!!!), or protesters of the inequality that was an outgrowth of the manufactured economic crash and depression of 2008.

The whole of the citizenry lost everything. The rich and corporations were the only demographics and entities to escape any harm at all! That should tell our White fellow citizens something about what we’re facing collectively, as a nation. The wealthy are in their own shut-off world and with the money poured into media, the propaganda has the intended results of dividing the collective minds of citizens against even utilizing government for the purpose it was originally intended – to be a check against the oppressive wealth and power of rich elites and corporations.

This is why it was and remains so critical to underfund Public education, so that neighborhoods schools are unable to teach the actual and true history of the American Revolution, the causes and consequences of the Civil War and why the Union achieved an honorable and just victory and any other notions are intentionally wrong, for the sake of, once again, dividing Americans against themselves. But we are so lost after these last 40 years of miseducation, as an imperative of the wealthy, to not just stop paying taxes toward equitable education and outcomes in White, non-White and diverse, mixed communities, equally. Bearing this our are graphs of the report mentioned earlier, showing the disparity of understanding and then, how their large donations move their feelings and opinions into reality – no matter what the general public thinks or desires. Understand now, that OUR Constitutional mandates are dictated by broad public consensus. We no longer even read the open paragraph of the Constitution the same, as a result of conflicts over White and non-White interpretations of life in America – no matter the savage levels of poor and Middle Class sufferings across racial lines!

I encourage every American to not only read this report, but recommend it to family, friends, neighbors and strangers, when and where possible. The consequences of not acting immediately will only result in a hastening to the destruction of all life on this planet. I matters not a damn whether we believe in Global Climate Change or not. Profit-driven lust and our obsession for cheap energy will be our doom if we fail to comprehend what conservatives mean to do to the population. Cheating us out of our Social Security and our birth-right obligations and responsibilities over our Democracy should be an insult to every American. Particularly because it has an unmistakably and exclusively racist nuance to it.

It was in fact conservative voters, along with frustrated, excluded non-White voters who have gotten the nation into the mess we’re in. They owe the rest of us a particular debt by helping undo the fiasco that has overtaken us over the last 40 – plus years. It is now far too late to even think about racist loyalties and owing what to whom (in the case of sympathizing with the rich in this case), during this – a brutal and unquestioned class war, that only the rich are waging, but that we, the non-rich, are too scared of hurting the feelings of the demographic of the very rich, who, coincidentally, are determined to kill us all – including THEMSELVES – should we fail to stop them! Remembering whose Democracy this is will not only reinforce your understanding, but also your own determination to initiate recalls of legislators whose only interest in self-enrichment and handing power over to those who mean the entirety of the non-wealthy, the most deliberate harm imaginable. Don’t let one more day pass without every American not determining to act on behalf of each other, our nation, our Democracy, and every other living thing on the planet…

Update: Thursday, February 19, 2015 –  Before I was even done with this article last night, I went back to National Memo’s website only to find that the article had already been taken down!  After only two hours!!! This is a serious issue and American’s had better clear they minds and souls of the foolishness that is ripping this nation apart and has us at the precipice of global annihilation – DIRECTLY BECAUSE of our continued use of fossil fuels – when alternatives are readily available.

The article, by John Stoehr, was/IS a fine piece of journalism and should be widely read.  But this is the terror facing the nation however, in the police-state suppression of thought, ideas and expressions of TRUTH we’re otherwise hiding from.  And more often now, by threat and intimidation.  Being a supposed Liberal website, National Memo has some explaining to do to it’s readers, on why this timely and crucial article was pulled and whose decision it was to pull it…  r21 –
